PDs take trip down memory lane at O'Malley launch

Des O'Malley's autobiography - 'Conduct Unbecoming' - is an essential educational read for anyone who cares about Irish politics. From the late 1960s to the early Noughties, his intellectual rigour, search for truth and plain speaking made him a role model for public representatives.

Former Tanaiste Mary Harney, Minister for Health Leo Varadkar, former minister Liz O'Donnell, former Lord Mayor Oisin Quinn and film producer Gerry Gregg all attended the event.

The book, which opens in 1970 with O'Malley's appointment as Minister for Justice just as the Arms Crisis is breaking, was launched by Pat Ra bbitte.

The Labour TD said O'Malley's book "gives unique historical insight" into the workings of Leinster House and described O'Malley as a politician who "stood out from the herd".
