30 Nov 2023: The Road Safety Authority (RSA), Gardaí and the Department of Transport and the Department of Justice launched the Christmas Road Safety campaign at the National Rehabilitation Hospital.

Chairperson of the RSA Liz O’Donnell described the period as “a very dangerous” time of year on Irish roads, when poor weather and partying can lead to dangerous conditions.

“We’re not party poopers, we want people to enjoy their Christmas parties but we are urging people to be mindful that we have already had too many people die on Irish roads.”

Chairperson of the RSA Liz O’Donnell

Some 172 people have died in collisions this year and there have been over 1,000 people seriously injured in road traffic accidents in 2023.

Justice Minister Helen McEntee and Garda Assistant Commissioner Paula Hilman were in attendance with Liz O’Donnell.
